FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which module dimensions are suitable?

In general, all commercially available modules with PMT EVO S 2.0 can be planned for the Flat Roof South PV mounting system. Our substructure covers module widths from 980 to 1,300 mm and module lengths between 1,550 and 2,400 mm.

Why can PMT EVO 2.0 S be installed particularly quickly?

Our PMT-EVO 2.0 substructures do not need to be screwed together. Thanks to secure click connections, the main components guarantee sufficient stability for the South substructure. Exceptions to this are the cross and ballast struts, middle and end clamps and accessories that have screw connections.

Is it necessary to screw the components together?

The elements of the PV mounting system flat roof south substructure do not need to be screwed together. Thanks to secure click connections, the main components guarantee sufficient stability. Exceptions to this are the cross and ballast struts, middle and end clamps and accessories, which have screw connections.

Is a lightning current carrying capacity guaranteed?

Yes, all PMT-EVO 2.0 systems can be included in a building's lightning protection concept thanks to their lightning current carrying capacity. However, a separate connection must be created for the modules, as these are not lightning current carrying in themselves. This can be done using the standard cross struts or the standard lightning protection material as specified by the lightning protection installer. The connection between the module blocks and the integration of the flat roof south mounting system must be specified by the lightning protection installer.

Can a slope change of 2 % be built over?

A change of pitch to a roof pitch of 1.5° can be built over without additional components. The prerequisite for this is that the transition from the base to the connecting floor profile runs exactly above the high point and can act as a joint. For a roof pitch of more than 1.5°, a ridge connector is required for the pitch change.

Is planning also possible without Solmont?

You can use the Flat Roof South PV mounting system on almost all roof coverings (up to 5° pitch) without penetrating the roof. We recommend always working with ridge couplings where possible. However, there are a few systems with a roof pitch of 2.0° or more that exhibit thermally induced movement effects and a much larger number of systems, some with higher pitches, that do not exhibit this effect. For this reason, we have decided to follow the advice of the German Solar Industry Association and recommend connection from a roof pitch of 1.0°.

Why is more ballast needed for a smaller roof than for a larger roof?

Each building must be considered separately. Even the basic geometry (length, width, height ratio) of buildings has a major influence on the required ballast, as the zoning of the roof behaves differently depending on the basic geometry. In addition to the building height and roof pitch, parameters such as the terrain category (proximity to larger bodies of water) also play a role.

Do I need special ballast stones?

Our flat roof systems can generally be secured with all standard ballast stones. Our PMT-Plan software calculates with the dimensions 40 x 40 x 4 cm and 15 kg as standard. Some of the components, such as side covers, ballast center and end clamps, are also adapted to these dimensions and can be used with these ballast blocks without restrictions. Ballast blocks that deviate from the size can only be attached to the substructure with additional ballast struts, for example. Ballast blocks that are too small may not be able to be placed on the ballast struts.

When sending us the project details, please let us know if you need to adjust the ballast stones so that we can calculate them accordingly. From a planning perspective, we can store our planning software with any stone weight and the corresponding dimensions.

Is there a specific requirement for the distribution of the ballstones?

Our planning software PMT Plan calculates the number and positioning of the ballast stones to be placed and displays them in the ballast plan. It is important to note the pure number and the corresponding color code. The values V and A given in the background can be ignored. Ballast stones are automatically stored in PMT Plan with the dimensions 40 x 40 x 4 cm with 15 kg. In order to calculate the ballast correctly, please let us know before planning if a different ballast stone is to be used.

How does it affect the statics if the number of ballast stones is changed?

Changing the ballast blocks reduces or increases the total load on the roof. This often has an effect on the statics.

Example: 17 kg is required to ballast an area. If a 15 kg block is stored in the planning, two blocks, i.e. 30 kg, are output for this area. If a block weighing 17 kg is entered in the calculation, only one block will be output for this area.

Do I really need ballast clamps?

Weather conditions or maintenance work can cause the ballast blocks to slip off the main floor profiles. To prevent this, we generally recommend securing the ballast blocks in the vulnerable edge and corner areas. In all areas, this should be discussed with the building owner. As the stability of the substructure can only be maintained with appropriately positioned stones, the positioning of the ballast stones must be checked during every maintenance.

Does the ballast change when the connecting floor profile is changed?

There are no noticeable changes between 60 mm and 200 mm or 300 mm. When using special connectors with 500 mm, however, the ballast increases. Important: If the module fields exceed the maximum field sizes of 20.0 x 20.0 m, these would have to be readjusted, which would result in a change in the ballast.

With which roof membranes and insulations can PMT EVO 2.0 S be installed?

In principle, our flat roof systems can be installed on any insulation and on PVC, FPO/TPO, bitumen, concrete and gravel. It is also possible to install the substructure on green roofs. Verification by PMT is required to ensure the maximum compressive strength of the insulation. In certain cases, the flat roof system can even be used on trapezoidal sheet metal. Please contact your PMT sales representative in advance to check the implementation.

Are green roofs also suitable for the EVO system?

Yes, there are three different variants for this:

  • Standard substructure on roof not yet greened and greening
  • Standard substructure on green roof with normal ballasting
  • Raised version where the substructure is screwed onto ballast blocks (Multi-Monti)

Are there any specifications for equipotential bonding with our mounting system?

What is the reason for the price difference between PMT EVO 2.0 S and PMT EVO 2.0 EW?

With the south mounting system, the amount of material used is around 1.5 to 1.7 times higher than with the east-west variant, which is why the costs per module are correspondingly higher.

Can the system be connected to a rope safety system?

In principle, nothing may be connected to an existing rope lifeline. This has been planned and installed for the pure protection of people on the roof and therefore cannot withstand the permanent static loads of the system. Mechanical attachment points from PMT, which are planned and offered via our software, are more suitable.
